Virile Head at The Petit Palais, Paris

The large, colossal creations of the 4th and 5th Centuries before Christ were mostly marked as being created in Greek workshops and ateliers, following the then Roman hellenistic style . Due to the absense of archeological context and given this constant technique from these Greek aterliers, it is often diffuclt to give a precise date for sculptures made in this time.
This marble head of a man is much larger than life, suggesting that it depicted someone heroic, powerful or godlike.
