The Surprise at the Palais des Academies, Brussels, Belgium

De Verbazing (The Surprise, or 'A Dog Stood Behind a Turtle) is a larger than life patinated bronze sculpture by Belgian sculptor Jean-Baptiste Van Heffen who was particularly adept with depicting animals. A fronze figure of a standing dog by Van Heffen 'Le Dogue d'Ulm' or 'Le Chien Vert' was erected in 1896 on a branite base in the southwest corner of the Parc du Cinquantenaire in Brussels. This sculpture depicts a dog standing behind a Turtle and is located in the gardens of the Palais des Academies (Brussels).
