Ekoi People Mask at British Museum, London

This mask was built with wood, skin, pigment and basketry, originating from the Ekoi people of Nigeria in the 19th century. Such masks were seen as female, showing an elaborate hairstyle typical of the area. They were owned and performed by a number of societies and seem to have been related to the ancestral dead
