3D modely ARTModel for The Blessed Ludovica Albertoni at The V&A, LondonTitle Model for The Blessed Ludovica Albertoni Artist Gianlorenzo Bernini Date 1672 Medium Terracotta Dimensions x Accession # A.93-1980 Credit For the monument commissioned by Cardinal Paluzzi degli Albertoni for the Altieri chapel in the church of San Francesco a Ripa, Rome The most important early exponent of the Italian Baroque style was Gianlorenzo Bernini. He worked for a succession of popes and other important patrons as a sculptor, an architect and a designer of theatrical performances and festivals. He often made preliminary terracotta models, known as bozzetti, as part of the design process for his large marble commissions. Through gesture, facial expression and treatment of drapery, Bernini imbued his figures with emotions, intended to turn to draw an emotional response from viewers. Bernini's sculpture represents the Franciscan nun Ludovica Albertoni at the point of her death. Her flowing robes and sensual expression convey her ecstatic union with God. Bernini convincingly captures a sense of immediacy, involving the viewer in a drama as it unfolds. Unusually, the back of this bozzetto is modelled, suggesting that it may have been made as a presentation piece for the patron. náhodný výběr modelů
