3D modely ARTLimestone figure of an old man and boy at The British Museum, LondonTitle Limestone figure of an old man and boy Artist Unknown, found in the Americas/Mexico regions Date Huaxtec period, 900-1450 Medium Limestone Dimensions H: 34cm Depth: 34cm Accession # Am1985,30.1 Credit Sotheby's The wrinkled features and stooping posture of this old man suggest that he represents a community elder - perhaps a personification of the aged Huaxtec thunder god Mam. His hands are clasped protectively around the shoulders of a naked young boy who stands tensely clutching his abdomen. They may be engaged in the kind of formal presentation ceremony common to many cultures as part of "coming of age" rituals involving the induction and initiation of pubescent boys and girls into their peer group. The elder wears elongated pendant earrings, a neatly arranged loincloth and cape, and he appears to be grinning broadly. Other versions of this old man show him holding a serpent staff or dibble stick, used to penetrate the earth so that it can receive new seed. Similar sculptures are still used today as the focus of ceremonial life in remote rural villages in mexico. At planting time they are bedecked with greenery and flowers and people entreat them to ensure the fertility of their fields and a bountiful harvest. náhodný výběr modelů
