Mercury at the Collection, Lincoln, UK

Mercury is a major roman god, symbollic of financial gain, commerce, eloquence, messages/communication, travelers, boundaries, luck, trickery and thieves; he is also the guide of souls to the underground. He is often depicted with sandals to represent his travelling spirit but is also more famous for wearing a hat with wings. This marble sculpture was created by Joseph Nollekens in the 18th Century and is on permanent display at the Usher Gallery in Lincoln, England.
