Standing Male Figure at The British Museum, London

The Greek kouros-type was strongly influence by the traditional sculpture of Ancient Egypt.
The kouros (youth) stands in a rigid frontal pose with the arms by his side and the left leg advanced. In contract to the Egyptian statue, he is nude, has no back pillar and the left leg is carved on all sides, heightening the impression of potential movement. An inscription on the base would have made clear whether the statue represented a mortal or a god- the type could be equally used for both.
