Eve Fairfax at The V&A, London

Rodin made several portraits of the beautiful women that were prominent in political and artistic circles. This bust was commissioned by Ernest Beckett (later Lord Grimthorpe), one of Rodin's earliest admirers in in Britain. Eve Fairfax (1871-1978) was then his fiancée, but their relationship soon ended. Rodin said of her 'Oh, those planes and the bony structure of these Englishwomen!' It was sculpted in Paris out of bronze by Auguste Rodin (1840-1917).
