Feminine Statuette at Quai Branly, Paris

This detailled terracota sculpture would have been a popular statuette found in Djenné, Mali. It sources from the 13th-15th Century AD. Some traces of red ochre paint remains to this day suggesting that these statuettes were highly vibrant when first produced. They would've been found around shrines and holy areas to praise feminity and fertility.
