Daniel Finch at The V&A, London

This marble bust was carved by John Michael Rysbrack (1694-1770) and was completed around 1723. Rysbrack came to London from Antwerp in 1720 and this early work shows one of his first patrons, Daniel Finch (1647 - 1730), 2nd Earl of Nottingham. Finch was a statesman. He is portrayed in classical rather than contemporary dress, an approach that was to become increasingly popular for public figures in the 18th Century (see similar sculptures from The Louvre, also uploaded on MyMiniFactory and Scan The World).
