Pygmalion in Putney, London

This sculpture is part of a trail installation of nine large sculptures along the River Thames at Putney, South London. A beautiful 1.5 mile riverside walk including parkland and piazzas replete with cafes and restaurants. he trail was opened in September 2008 and was organisd by Putney Town Centre Partnership with Wandsworth Council. Here you will find a large body of work by the sculptor Alan Thornhill whose long association with clay developed from pottery into sculpture. His evolved methods of working enabled the dispensing of the sculptural armature to allow improvisation, whilst his portraiture challenges notions of normality through rigorous observation.
