3D modely ARTBig Bird at the Middelheim MuseumTitle Big Bird Artist Andre Willequet Date 1964-65 Medium Bronze Dimensions 102x 172x55cm Accession# 134718 Credit Placed at the Middelheim Museum André Willequet ( born January 3, 1921 in Brussels, Belgium ; † 1 July 1998 in Uccle, Belgium ) was a Belgian sculptor. Willequet was born in Brussels, but grew up in Luxembourg. He studied from 1940 to 1945 with the sculptor Oscar Jespers at the Belgian Ecole Nationale Superieure des arts visuels - Ecole Nationale Superieure d'Architecture previously et des Arts Décoratifs in Brussels. In 1947 he was awarded the second prize at the award ceremony of the Prix de Rome. He made a trip to France and meet the artists Constantin Brancusi, Ossip Zadkine and Henri Laurens. From 1951 to 1952 he studied at the Royal College of Art in London in the sculptors Jacob Epstein and Henry Moore. In 1959 he went to Florence and Rome and was invited as a stone sculptor to the first European Sculpture Symposium St. Margarethen with Karl Prantl in Sankt Margarethen im Burgenland. The style of Willequet changed from figurative representational style to abstract art. He worked with wood, stone, bronze and steel.
